Jockey Andrew Mullen has been encouraged by the demand for his services since parting ways with Mick Appleby at the end of last year.

The northern-based rider had been Appleby's stable jockey for four years, but with the trainer moving further south to Oakham from Newark, Mullen has opted to go it alone closer to home.

"I'm based not far from Catterick and Mick is now three hours away and it was never going to work," says the Scottish jockey.
