"Mourinho has got his mojo back"

Former England defender Danny Mills has hailed the form of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane and believes their fantastic combination at Tottenham is down to a desire to win trophies after several near misses.

Speaking to presenter Scott Minto on the Racing Post's YouTube show Different League in association with Betfred, Mills said he has been impressed by Spurs and he expects the north London outfit to thump Brighton at White Hart Lane on Sunday "by at least three goals".

Mills said: "Son would be the first name on my Tottenham team sheet, even ahead of Kane.

"I think they are two outstanding players who have built up an unbelievable understanding but Kane has had his injuries and Son's work-rate and energy level week-in and week-out is superb."

Son leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with eight goals this season and Kane is way clear at the summit for assists (eight). That change from the England captain could be key according to Mills.

"Maybe Kane is looking for that pass more often now and I wonder if that's because he has won all the personal accolades - he can't win anything else individually - and there is now a need to win team trophies," said Mills.

"Look at Barcelona. There was no selfishness between Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. If one of them had a simple square ball for a tap-in they would make the pass.

"Chuck a fully-fit Gareth Bale into the mix in behind those two and Spurs are the only side I could see other than Manchester City or Liverpool getting involved in the title race despite the current state of the table which has an unusual look to it.

"Spurs could put a run together and I expect them to comfortably beat Brighton by at least three goals.

"Jose Mourinho has got his mojo back but the question is for how long?"

In terms of the top two from last season, Mills can see flaws in both Liverpool and his former team City which only adds to the intrigue.

"City have brought in Ruben Dias to solidify the defence but this season they are down on all the attacking stats and I just think the absence of Sergio Aguero is huge for them."

The same could be said of Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool and Mills reckons the champions must sign a replacement in January

"They need to address that situation," said Mills despite Fabinho filling in well so far. "We saw Fernandinho drop back for City and it works for a while but not long-term."
