Plumpton's meeting on Tuesday has been cancelled after overnight temperatures failed to rise above -1C, leaving parts of the course frozen in places.

An inspection of the Sussex track at 7am found some areas were still unraceable following last week's cold snap and that there was insufficient time for temperatures to improve and the course to thaw before racing was due to start at 1.10.

Officials were due to inspect at 8am but brought forward their verdict after another cold night. The track has already been impacted by the weather this year after losing its highly valuable Sussex National card.

Speaking on Monday afternoon, Plumpton's clerk of the course Marcus Waters said: "It's been a hard ten days for the team here. We've had every single type of weather from rain, sleet, snow and frost."

With Plumpton cancelled, there will be no jump racing in Britain or Ireland on Tuesday. The day's action consists of all-weather meetings at Southwell and Newcastle, while in Ireland, Dundalk hosts a seven-race card that begins at 2.30.

Newbury racegoers had plenty to enjoy on Saturday - but whether it felt different as a Premier raceday is debatable

Wednesday's meeting at Newbury will go ahead after the course brought forward and passed its inspection originally set for 3pm.

The track was frozen in places on Monday but is now soft on the chase course and soft, heavy in places on the hurdles track after a warmer night than officials were expecting.

It was well above freezing last night with temperatures around 4C, and it is due to be similar again this evening with highs of 9C on raceday.

The feature event on the card is the £35,000 Listed mares' chase (3.35), in which the Grade 1 winner Apple Away, Lady Balko and Fantastic Lady are set to do battle.

There is French interest earlier on in the card when Kloth Of Utopia will bid to give Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm their first win at the Berkshire track in the 2m½f novice hurdle (1.25).

There is currently no inspection for Wednesday's meeting at Hereford. The going is soft, good to soft in places, but areas of the track remain frozen.
