Wednesday’s action from the US Open signals the start of the second round and there are plenty of heavy hitters involved in the men’s draw as Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton all bid to lay down a title marker.
The top half of the women’s draw takes centre stage and all eyes will be on Aryna Sabalenka as she aims to build on an easy first-round win over Rebeka Masarova when the world number one meets Polina Kudermetova.
British number one Emma Raducanu, rising teenage talent Mirra Andreeva and home favourite Jessica Pegula will also take to the courts of New York and are expecting to make serene progress.

US Open day four preview
Benjamin Bonzi vs Marcos Giron predictions
For the second time in successive Grand Slam competitions, Benjamin Bonzi upset Daniil Medvedev with a controversial five-set victory in round one and the Frenchman may be able to build on that against American ace Marcos Giron.
Bonzi has always been a player capable of delivering world-class performances against elite players and he hinted that he was finding top form with his run to the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters, where he surprised seeds Lorenzo Musetti and Stefanos Tsitsipas before finding Felix Auger-Aliassime too good.
Giron snapped a five-match winning run with his five-set triumph over Mariano Navone in round one but the 32-year-old has never made it past round two of his home Grand Slam.

McCartney Kessler vs Marketa Vondrousova predictions
Home talent McCartney Kessler is the seeded player for this second-round encounter but that may understate the chances of 2023 Wimbledon heroine Marketa Vondrousova.
Vondrousova brushed aside Kessler 6-1 7-6 in their Wimbledon meeting at the end of June and her title triumph prior to that in Berlin shows that the classy Czech performer remains a force to be reckoned with when fit and firing.
The 26-year-old’s ranking of world number 60 is a touch insulting given her natural ability and this is only her second US Open appearance in the last four years, having reached the quarter-final stage in 2023.
Jelena Ostapenko vs Taylor Townsend predictions
Taylor Townsend tends to save herself for the doubles, having won two Grand Slam titles alongside regular partner Katerina Siniakova, but she is an extremely adept singles player too and can find a way past the error-strewn Jelena Ostapenko.
Townsend relishes the quick conditions in her homeland and she showed that when making the last eight in Washington last month, a tournament which featured victory over her higher-ranked compatriot Sofia Kenin.
In her subsequent start in Cincinnati, Townsend upset fellow American Danielle Collins and world number 20 Liudmila Samsonova and she can take down Ostapenko, who has lost six of her last eight hard-court matches.
