US Open day five preview
Gabriel Diallo vs Jaume Munar predictions
Gabriel Diallo showed that he is a player going places when he landed his maiden ATP Tour title at the Libema Open in June and, while he has yet to do much damage in Grand Slam competition, it should not be long before he enjoys a deep run.
Diallo’s run to the third round of last season’s US Open is his best performance in a Grand Slam and in his opening assignment in New York last year he recorded a four-set victory over Jaume Munar, who he renews rivalry with on Thursday.
The Canadian defeated Munar again 7-5 6-3 in their second meeting in Mallorca in June and he looks up to maintaining that perfect record against a player who has won only two matches in seven previous trips to Flushing Meadows.
Munar is much happier on slower courts and looks set to be outclassed by Diallo, who excels on serve and fired in 17 aces in a four-set triumph over Damir Dzumhur in round one.

Sorana Cirstea vs Karolina Muchova predictions
Karolina Muchova has made the semi-final of the US Open in back-to-back years but the Czech world number 13 has had a disappointing season and could be set for an early exit against an in-form Sorana Cirstea.
Muchova won only one match in the opening three Slams in 2025 and was pushed to three sets by 45-year-old Venus Williams in round one, suggesting that she could again be vulnerable in New York.
The seed has lost seven of her last 13 matches, highlighting inconsistencies, and in Cirstea faces an opponent who should be brimming with belief after her title success in Cleveland last week.
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Xinyu Wang predictions
Ekaterina Alexandrova made light work of first-round opponent Anastasija Sevastova but a much tougher test awaits against Xinyu Wang, who made the fourth round of the US Open in 2023.
Wang is a player of immense potential but she tends to get embroiled in battles. Her opening three-set victory over Caroline Dolehide was her fifth straight match to go to a deciding set.
The Chinese talent has won two of her three hard-court meetings with Alexandrova but their last two went the distance and this latest meeting may follow the pattern.
