Wing Back was the subject of a gamble from 16-1 to 7-4 before landing the 2m2f handicap hurdle in emphatic fashion under Phillip Enright.

The five-year-old had form figures of 6008909 and been beaten a total of 307 lengths in his previous seven starts before denying Parkgarve.

"He kept going up the hill and jumped well all the way," said Enright. "It might not have been the strongest race in the world but he got the job done."

Enright and trainer Sam Curling also later teamed up to win the 2m6f handicap hurdle with Fire Coral – she was the rider's seventh winner of the week and Curling's third in four days having also sent out Lord Ffrench to win at Sligo on Thursday.

Sam the early man

Sam Ewing was quick out of the blocks as he helped himself to a 71-1 double in the opening two races.

The Peter Fahey-trained Atomic Queen got him off the mark in the opening 2m2f mares' maiden hurdle, bursting clear after the last to beat 5-4 favourite Galileo Springs by five lengths. She returned at odds of 5-1.

Ewing then excelled on Catena Zapata, making most of the running and keeping enough in reserve to fend off Redwood Queen after the last. He was the 11-1 outsider of the quartet in the 2m2f rated hurdle.

It was only Catena Zapata's second start for trainer Ian Donoghue after he was claimed out of Henry de Bromhead's yard.
