How Field Of Gold’s new jockey William Buick gets on in Group 1s when not riding for Godolphin

William Buick is set to ride Field Of Gold in next week's Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes and here we look at how the top jockey has fared when not riding for Godolphin in Group 1s since becoming their retained rider . . .
The stats
William Buick has ridden 11 winners from 176 rides on non-Godolphin horses in Group 1s for a 6 per cent strike-rate since becoming the operation's retained rider at the end of 2014.
Backing those mounts blindly would have resulted in a level-stakes loss of £103.68.

Looking exclusively at Glorious Goodwood, Buick is 0-6 when riding in Group 1s on non-Godolphin horses at the meeting in the same time frame, with no horse finishing better than fifth.
Five of those were sent off at a double-figure price, with the exception being the James Fanshawe-trained Audarya, who finished fifth behind Lady Bowthorpe when sent off the 9-4 joint-favourite for the 2021 Nassau Stakes.
The horses
Buick's most recent Group 1 win on a non-Godolphin horse came in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan in April on George Boughey's Believing.
The rider claimed two Group 1s on non-Godolphin horses last year, with Mill Stream landing the July Cup for Jane Chapple-Hyam and Kalpana claiming the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot.

Buick and Chapple-Hyam combined to land two Group 1s with Saffron Beach; Sun Chariot Stakes (2021) and Prix Rothschild (2022), while Ralph Beckett's Lezoo won the 2022 Cheveley Park Stakes under the two-time champion jockey.
Buick also won the Cheveley Park on the Mark Johnston-trained Lumiere in 2015, with David Menuisier's Wonderful Tonight another Group 1 winner for the rider in the 2020 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.

Buick's other top-level wins on non-Godolphin horses came aboard Prince Bishop (2015 Dubai World Cup), Pakistan Star (2018 QEII Cup) and Stelvio (2018 Mile Championship).
