'When it's your local track it's like football - you have home advantage' - Jim Crowley brings up landmark winner at Goodwood

Jim Crowley brought up 100 winners at Goodwood in dramatic fashion on Saturday after Mudbir survived a stewards' inquiry to land the 7f handicap and give his rider a landmark success at his local track.
Champion jockey in 2016, Crowley had made it 99 winners at the West Sussex track when partnering Al Aasy to success in the Group 3 Glorious Stakes earlier in the day and survived a lengthy inquiry to bring up his century on the John and Thady Gosden-trained runner.
"I knew I was getting close to 100 winners but didn't know I'd achieved it there," said Crowley, based less than 20 miles away from Goodwood at Pulborough and first rider to Shadwell. "It's nice to get 100 at Goodwood. It's my local course and it's been a very lucky one as well over the years.
"The festival itself has been very lucky for me and there wouldn't be many races here that we haven't won. This is my local track and it's nice to do it today on the last day of Glorious Goodwood."

He added: "Goodwood is a jockeys' track. I think the more you ride here, the more you know it and can work out where things go wrong. When it's your local track it's like football – you have home advantage.
"I still love riding and I'm probably hungrier now than I've ever been."
Mudbir bumped Dance In The Storm inside the last furlong but Crowley felt the stewards had reached the right decision after they confirmed the placings.
"It was tight and both horses shifted," said Crowley. "I felt the second horse probably shifted more than we did when you watched the head on. My horse is still inexperienced and was running around a bit but I felt he was always holding the second."
Andrew Balding, trainer of the runner-up, added: "She had a very tough draw and came out of it with a lot of credit. David Probert was fairly confident we'd get it in the stewards' room but it's an independent decision and that's it."
