A race as fiendishly tricky as the Stewards' Cup becomes a lot less complicated when you are an owner determined to make his own luck. 

Phil Cunningham started the week with two live chances for Glorious Goodwood's final-day feature, but by the time Saturday rolled around he had three on his hands. Two Tribes, the late addition to the roster after his win at Ascot last week, conquered the near side while Twilight Calls led home the pack on the far side. No matter which way the race developed, the £128,850 prize for first place was secured for Cunningham and trainer Richard Spencer. 

It was the near-side group who came home best as a rather unpredictable week ended in predictable fashion for many shrewd backers, who seemed to have cottoned on to the quiet confidence behind Two Tribes, who was backed down from double figures to 11-2 at the off.
