The master of Pond House reveals all to Andrew King

It has been ten years since David Pipe’s name went above the door at the historic Pond House Stables in Somerset with the brief of following in the footsteps of his record-breaking 15-time champion trainer father Martin, who handed over the reins to his son in April 2006.
And Pipe expresses himself pleased with the way things have gone: “It was always going to be tough being compared to my father but I feel we’ve shaken off all those comparisons as times have changed dramatically in racing and the emphasis at the yard these days is quality over quantity.
“We finished last season with 80 winners domestically over jumps and while that number was a little down on the previous term, the
prize-money haul of almost £1.2 million was on a par owing to success at the higher quality meetings.”
