City of York and Ebor form looks strong - but clear performance of the weekend came outside Britain

The City of York Stakes was run as a Group 1 for the first time on Saturday and it was four-year-old improver Never So Brave who landed the spoils, achieving his first win at the highest level. 

In doing so he notched a Racing Post Rating of 120, which rates among the better winners of the race over the past decade, with only Kinross bettering this in 2022. 

Never So Brave is still lightly raced and it would be no surprise to see him go on to improve on this RPR later in the season. Among his entries for the autumn is the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day.
