There are some thrilling encounters in store on day six of the US Open but surely none more important than Britain's Emma Raducanu taking on Elena Rybakina for a place in the last 16 of the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the season.

It's quite difficult pinpointing Raducanu's exact level of wellbeing at present. She has been producing plenty of promising performances in recent months without approaching the pinnacle, but it appears that she may finally have brought something close to her A-game to New York City. That could see the 2021 Flushing Meadows heroine pose plenty of problems for Rybakina.

Second seed Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed in action in the men's singles and the shaven-haired Spaniard should have too much for his last-32 opponent, Argentina-born Italian Luciano Darderi.

US Open day six preview

Elena Rybakina vs Emma Raducanu predictions

Emma Raducanu has flattered to deceive on more than the odd occasion since going all the way in the US Open in 2021, but there is little doubt that the Briton has the game and shots to win more major singles titles and it's fair for punters to anticipate a big performance from the 22-year-old when she takes on the dangerous Elena Rybakina for a place in the last 16.

Both women are one-time Slam champions - Rybakina's glory moment came at Wimbledon in 2022 - but it's just possible that the unseeded Raducanu might feel more comfortable taking on the ninth seed than she was when twice trying to lower the colours of world number one Aryna Sabalenka this summer.

To be fair to Raducanu, she performed with credit in close losses to Sabalenka at Wimbledon and in Cincinnati in recent months, although the Briton's collapse on the London grass from a position of strength remains an unanswered mystery.

Whatever the case, Rybakina is less powerful physically than Sabalenka, so there should be no excuses as far as Raducanu is concerned on this occasion.

The pair have played each other only once and that was in Sydney in 2022, when Raducanu was still giddy in the wake of her Flushing Meadows triumph. She won only one game on that occasion and so that encounter can be as good as ignored.

Novak Djokovic vs Cameron Norrie predictions

Britain's Cameron Norrie has been going along nicely in recent months and gave a good account of himself at Wimbledon this summer. However, the Joburg-born Norrie may do well to keep tabs on Novak Djokovic.

Legendary veteran Djokovic, 38, has won all six of his previous meetings with Norrie and the seventh seed looks a bet at a shade of odds-on to sweep into the last 16 in straight sets.

This will be just the second time the pair have clashed on a hard court on the main tour and Norrie captured only three games in their first encounter in Turin in 2021.

Ben Shelton vs Adrian Mannarino predictions

Adrian Mannarino has put in a series of decent performances but his third-round opponent Ben Shelton is in the throes of making an important step up in his career after winning the Toronto Masters recently, and the Frenchman may come up short.

Shelton is one of the USA's brightest young performers and it may not be long before he causes more trouble for big two Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in Grand Slam singles competition.

His self-belief is growing and Mannarino will do well to win more than one set against his talented young opponent, so backing the favourite to successfully concede a handicap start of 4.5 games may be the way to go for punters.
