The US Open has reached the quarter-final stage and Tuesday’s action sees some tight tussles as 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic locks horns with last season’s runner-up Taylor Fritz.
Carlos Alcaraz, champion at Flushing Meadows in 2022, will be expected to make light work of Jiri Lehecka but things may be tougher for women’s world number Aryna Sabalenka as she renews rivalry with fellow power hitter Marketa Vondrousova.
The other last-eight clash in the women’s draw pits home favourite Jessica Pegula against the resurgent Barbora Krejcikova, who has two Grand Slam titles to her name.

US Open day ten preview
Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz predictions
Fritz has lost all of his ten meetings with Djokovic, but the American may never get a better chance to down the Serbian great.
Djokovic is bidding to reach the semi-final of all four Grand Slam competitions this season but his win percentage throughout his career is lower at the US Open than it is in Australia or Wimbledon.
These two played out a gruelling five-setter at the Australian Open in 2021 and, given that Fritz is one of the most efficient servers on the ATP Tour and Djokovic still one of the best on return, there is potential for this to follow suit.
Break point chances could be few and far between. Djokovic has dropped serve only five times in four games while Fritz has been broken only four times and in his latest 3-0 win opponent Tomas Machac failed to carve out a break-point opportunity, suggesting that he may be timing his run perfectly.
There has been a tiebreak in the last two meetings between this pair and the gap is now smaller than it has ever been. Four sets or more should be enough to see over the total games.

Jiri Lehecka vs Carlos Alcaraz predictions
Alcaraz can sometimes take time to warm to the task in Grand Slams but it has been vintage stuff from him in New York, where he has recorded four straight-set victories and been firmly focused on matters in hand.
That may spell trouble for Lehecka, who is featuring in only his second Major quarter-final, but odds of 4-6 about another routine victory for Alcaraz are on the short side given that both of their meetings this year have gone to a deciding set.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Marketa Vondrousova predictions
Vondrousova has caused more problems than most for Sabalenka down the years and the former Wimbledon champion has not been not intimidated by the world number one’s brute force.
Sabalenka won their latest meeting in Cincinnati last month to edge ahead 5-4 in their head-to-head series, but the Czech underdog will be on a high following her three-set win over Elena Rybakina and is fancied to get a set on the board.
Vondrousova has claimed a set in six of her nine meetings with Sabalenka, triumphing in two of their last three encounters. This last-eight battle be all about power and the player making the fewest unforced errors is likely to prevail.
Jessica Pegula vs Barbora Krejcikova predictions
Pegula has made serene progress in her bid to follow up last season’s runner-up effort at Flushing Meadows, having yet to drop a set in four matches with five of those sets finishing 6-2 or better.
Last year’s Wimbledon winner Krejcikova will pose a greater test for the American but she required three sets to come past Emma Navarro and Taylor Townsend, and those encounters each lasted over two-and-a-half hours, so the fourth seed should justify favouritism.
