The Fighting Fifth is one fascinating race - but we've no idea how good any of the principals are

Looking at the three protagonists for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday, it suddenly dawned on me that we haven't really got much of an idea as to how good any of them are.

We know how good Constitution Hill was, of course, but it's 32 months since he ran to within 10lb of his imperious best, even when standing up, and that's a long time.

He didn't even want to line up when last seen at Punchestown and, while all the noises from the Henderson camp have been positive, he's still got to do it on the track.
