It was yet another absorbing Breeders' Cup meeting at Del Mar on Saturday and here are five things you might have missed among the action . . .

Appleby stars will return next year

Charlie Appleby claimed his 12th Breeders' Cup win when Notable Speech powered home to bag the Mile and following the race the trainer revealed that both the colt and his stablemate and Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up Rebel's Romance will remain in training next season.

Notable Speech, winner of the 2,000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes last year, has added further top-level wins to his name this campaign in the Woodbine Mile and Saturday's Grade 1.

Popular globetrotter Rebel's Romance found only Ethical Diamond too strong in his bid for a historic third Turf success and the gelding is set to race on as an eight-year-old.

An equine John Cleese?

Paddock-watchers were treated to a bit of pre-race entertainment on Saturday as Goliath walked around the parade ring.

Displaying a technique that wouldn't have looked out of place in Monty Python's famous Ministry of Silly Walks sketch, Francis Graffard's five-year-old was seen repeatedly stomping one of his hind legs as he took part in the preliminaries.

The King George winner has stringhalt, which is a neuromuscular condition in horses that causes an involuntary, exaggerated upward jerking of one or both hind limbs.

Although it does not affect his ability to race, the extra exertions may not have aided his cause on this occasion as he faded into 11th in the Turf under Mickael Barzalona.

Trainers tied at the top

Bob Baffert bagged two Grade 1s on Saturday and the victory of Nysos in the Dirt Mile saw him move level with Aidan O'Brien on 21 Breeders' Cup wins.

O'Brien had become the outright most successful Breeders' Cup trainer when Gstaad landed Friday's Juvenile Turf, yet that is now an accolade he shares with Baffert, who earlier on Saturday had won the Filly & Mare Sprint with Splendora.

Soumillon on Minnie Hauk

Minnie Hauk was sent off the red-hot Turf favourite following her close second to Daryz in last month's Arc, but the Oaks winner could only finish sixth under Christophe Soumillon, who said he "wasn't really happy at any point".

Speaking to Sky Sports Racing after the race, Soumillon said: "She was a little keen the whole time. She looked nervous beforehand and in-running she never settled. When I asked her to take a blow she never did, so I think she just overraced.

"She wasn't like how she was in Longchamp and the race didn't suit us today."

David Jennings samples some $29.50 duck tacos

David Jennings has been at Del Mar covering the Breeders' Cup this week, and after a video of him reviewing a $17.40 pint of Stella Artois was recorded on Friday, our reporter decided to sample some of the food options at the track.

Duck tacos were the chosen item from the menu and the meal cost a whopping $29.50!
