Zamparelli takes full advantage of Back Bar's last-gasp tumble

THE Limerick Foxhounds Bruff fixture at Rathcannon has typically held a position on the opening weekend of the season, but the decision to take a date slightly deeper in the autumn term was rewarded with a strong entry of 90 – the second-highest received from the seven fixtures which have taken place to date – with local handler Joe Casey stealing the headlines.
Casey’s Zamparelli was largely unconsidered in the market for the opening Tattersalls Ireland four-year-old maiden.
However, the son of Mahler had fortune on his side as he was four lengths behind the Pat Doyle-trained Back Bar approaching the final fence when the Brian Boru gelding unseated his rider Richie Deegan. That handed the advantage and ultimately the race to the Richard Harding-partnered Zamparelli, beating Ballinasilla by three lengths
