These two Ascot winners were impressive - but they look short enough for their targets at the Cheltenham Festival

It might not have been quite the clash served up by Shishkin (Racing Post Rating 179) and Energumene in the 2022 running, but Saturday's Clarence House Chase saw Jonbon (177) post the best figure for a British-based chaser over two miles since his former stablemate prevailed in that epic duel.

Jumping well and never out of his comfort zone at the head of affairs, he was always holding Energumene (170), ultimately running out a decisive winner.

Historically, only Shishkin and another former stablemate Altior (178) have posted bigger winning RPRs in this race in the past decade, and Jonbon's new RPR is higher than that of an average winner of the Champion Chase (174) at Cheltenham.
