Power Blue posts personal best, but Phoenix follows pattern of underwhelming juvenile events

The first Group 1 for juveniles this year was landed by Amo Racing, whose Power Blue won the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. In doing so, the colt was fulfilling the potential he had shown on his first three starts, having been somewhat disappointing since.

Power Blue recorded a comfortable personal best Racing Post Rating of 112. While a fine achievement for connections, the race fits broadly in line with the modest standard being set in juvenile Pattern races this season.

Power Blue’s RPR of 112 is 3lb below the ten-year average for the race. That is backed up by the performances of the third and fourth Green Sense and Puerto Rico, who just about ran to levels they had already achieved.
