Newbury trial winner looks enticing each-way option for the Guineas after significant step forward

Newbury's Classic trials were the focus on Saturday and perhaps the most intriguing performance came in the Greenham, won by the Andrew Balding-trained Jonquil by a length and a half.

The Greenham was a slowly run affair with the winner never far off the pace, picking up when finding the front and keeping on strongly. It was a performance that bolstered his case for next month's 2,000 Guineas.

The colt, formerly with Sir Michael Stoute before his retirement at the end of last season, recorded a Racing Post Rating of 114, beating several entries for the Newmarket Classic, including one of last year's top two-year-old performers in Coventry Stakes winner Rashabar.
