Minnie Hauk earns 12-1 Arc quote after claiming Oaks double - but I think the Leger makes more sense
Nick Watts looks back at the recent action in Britain and Ireland and the key market moves

I find races like the Irish Oaks a hard watch. With a 2-11 favourite doing exactly what she should have done, but in a workmanlike manner, it certainly was not anything to set the pulse racing.
It was more interesting to work out what might happen next. Minnie Hauk is around 12-1 for the Arc, which is a legitimate target, but to my eyes she looks more like a stayer, certain to get even further. I think she would be very hard to beat in the St Leger, but quotes of 8-1 to 14-1 underline the slim chances of her being pointed towards the Doncaster Classic.
Personally I still think her stablemate Whirl, already advised in this column at 20-1 and now no bigger than 16-1 despite needing to be supplemented, is a much better fit for the Arc. In simple terms, she looks like a quicker version of Minnie Hauk. Fingers crossed we get a run for our money at Longchamp.
