Fillies steal the show on a sparkling Arc Sunday - plus our Longchamp eyecatchers

It was a fantastic day for British-trained mares on Sunday and, although Bluestocking ran below the ten-year averagefor an Arc winner, the opposite was true of Makarova, who was a worthy winner of the Prix de l’Abbaye, even if her two closest rivals were slightly below par.
Ed Walker’s five-year-old achieved a Racing Post Rating of 115, a career-best figure on her final run. When adjusted to 118 to factor in the 3lb mares’ allowance, that works out slightly higher than the ten-year average of 117.2, which itself is skewed by the mammoth figure of 128 posted by Battaash in 2017.
Bradsell was a warm favourite, unbeaten for the season, but he had to settle for second, running to a mark of 115. It was still a good performance, as it was from third-placed Believing, but the ground had gone against that pair a little whereas it played to the strengths of the winner.
