Another Aintree success could beckon for Pic D'Orhy after return to peak form

Connections of Saturday's Ascot Chase winner Pic D'Orhy had reason to be optimistic, as well as celebratory, after his second victory in the Grade 1 contest was good enough to earn a Racing Post Rating of 168, a return to the peak of his form.
Another crack at the Melling Chase at Aintree in April is likely. He disappointed in last year's race, with Harry Cobden pulling him up following a mistake two out, but he will go there in better form this time having earned an RPR of 168 on Saturday, 7lb higher than when defeating L'Homme Presse in the 2024 Ascot Chase.
The average winning RPR for the Melling over the last ten runnings is 171 but, while Pic D’Orhy is 3lb below that, his figure of 166 in 2023 was good enough to win the 2m4f Aintree contest.
