Chaloner breaks collarbone in Wolverhampton fall

Jockey George Chaloner is facing a spell on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

The Malton-based rider suffered a nasty tumble when his mount Exceedingly Sweet broke a leg in the fillies' maiden.

Chaloner, who has partnered 18 winners this year, said on Sunday: "I'm very lucky because all I've done is broken my collarbone; it could have been a great deal worse.

“I don't remember anything about the fall. I remember talking to Richard Kingscote at the gates and the next thing I remember is being put into the ambulance."

Chaloner was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, where he was x-rayed and underwent a CT scan. He said he did not leave hospital until after midnight, his fall having occurred in the 6.15pm race.

Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said: "I'm really sorry George had a bad fall and I wish him a speedy recovery.

"He was taken by the racecourse ambulance to New Cross Hospital. His mother accompanied him and I was in touch with her throughout the evening, and by the end of racing she texted me to say that he'd been x-rayed and had undergone a CT scan."
