Adrian Keatley on his 'very pleasing' run of form as he bids for a remarkable eighth consecutive winner on Friday

Britain’s hottest trainer is hoping to continue his winning spree in Dubai on Friday night when Kihavah contests the Group 3 Al Khail Trophy (6.10) at Meydan.

Adrian Keatley’s last seven winners have all won, the most recent recorded at Newcastle last night by prolific Aisling Oscar, who was completing his own seventh consecutive success.

It is a remarkable achievement by the North Yorkshire trainer and, irrespective of how Kihavah fares in the Middle East, Keatley believes he has a great chance of continuing the winning run in Britain at Sedgefield on Sunday when he saddles Indian River, victorious on his last two outings, in the 2m1f handicap hurdle (3.10).

“Things are going well,” Keatley said. “It’s very pleasing to have sent out seven consecutive winners, particularly as they have been a mixture of all-weather, jumps, and a sprinter in Bahrain [Another Baar].

“Kihavah has a chance in Dubai tonight. I’m very happy with him. He’s in good form, and should run well. Then I’ve got a nice horse to run at Sedgefield on Sunday, who has won his last two races.”

Keatley is thrilled by the spectacular rise of bargain-buy Aisling Oscar over the last two months.

Bought by Dan Astbury at an online sale in September for just 3,200gns, the five-year-old has rattled off seven straight Newcastle wins from the end of November.

His first victory came off an official mark of 46, and he ran off 19lb higher when beating Goldmoyne by half a length last night as 15-8 favourite in the 7f handicap.

“Aisling Oscar is a grand horse,” Keatley said. “He’s highly progressive and is getting more and more confident from winning races.

“He is also putting weight on and getting stronger. He is thriving at the moment, and I hope there is more to come.

“That’s January done and dusted; now we’ll have to wait and see what the handicapper does to him on Tuesday and map out a plan for February.”

Keatley is reluctant to speculate on what the ceiling is for Aisling Oscar. “That would just be shooting yourself in the foot,” he said. “I do think, though, he has plenty more to offer. He simply loves Newcastle.”
