League Two title predictions

The battle for the League Two title has come down to the wire and victory for Doncaster away at Notts County, who still have an outside chance of automatic promotion if results go their way, would see them crowned champions.

Port Vale are Rovers’ pursuers and they will be eyeing a home win over Gillingham while hoping the leaders fail to overcome County, although the top two are both guaranteed of League One football next season.

Vale, having won eight of their last 11 at home, would be expected to justify odds-on favouritism against a Gills outfit that are without victory in 13 away games and are all-but assured of finishing down in 17th.

Rovers have things far tougher away at fifth-placed County, who look set for a playoff place, but they may still merit interest.

Grant McCann’s side are 4-6 to claim the title at Vale’s expense and they have risen to the challenge, going ten games unbeaten and winning three on the bounce which includes against third-placed Bradford last time out.

Doncaster are 11-10 in the draw-no-bet betting and that appeals given that the Magpies have won only one of their last six at Meadow Lane, suffering back-to-back defeats to Salford and Cheltenham and could lose focus if results elsewhere go against them.

County are 25-1 to cause some final-day drama and snatch third but will need to beat Donny, while also hoping Bradford lose and Walsall fail to win.

League Two top-three finish predictions

Bradford are 1-4 to finish third and join Doncaster and Port Vale in England’s third tier next season and victory at home to Fleetwood would seal the deal.

The Bantams are on a four-match winless run, which offers some hope to the chasing pack, but they boast the best home form in the division having amassed 52 points from their 22 league games at Valley Parade.

Graham Alexander’s side have won 16 and lost only two of their 22 home league fixtures and it would be disappointing were they to falter against mid-table Fleetwood, who have shipped three times in suffering consecutive away defeats at Chesterfield and Harrogate.

They are priced accordingly, however, and a draw could still end up being enough as fourth-placed Walsall look shorter than warranted on their final-day trip to Crewe.

The Saddlers were odds-on for the title in early March but have failed to win any of their last 13 league games and they have fired three blanks in their last four outings.

League Two top-seven finish predictions

With just two points separating Salford in seventh and Colchester in tenth, there is potential for plenty of late drama in the playoff race and the Ammies may have to come through an entertaining encounter with an already-relegated Carlisle.

It is win and you’re in for Salford and, having taken 13 points from their last five away trips, they should be feeling pretty optimistic against a Carlisle side that may be feeling sorry for themselves after last week’s 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham sealed their fate.

That said, the Cumbrians have failed to score in only one of their last ten league games while Salford have seen both teams get on the scoresheet in their last eight league fixtures.

Ninth-placed Chesterfield are one point behind Salford and are 9-4 to pinch a playoff place, although they have suffered just one defeat in 12 and should justify odds-on favouritism at Accrington.

Whoever wins between Grimsby and AFC Wimbledon will be assured of a playoff spot but a draw will also suffice for the Wombles, making it a trappy betting heat with neither outfit in inspired form.

Colchester are the other team still in contention but 16-1 quotes show how much they need to go their way and visitors Barrow have suffered only one defeat in 12, so won’t be easy to budge.
