To find historical comparisons with Pinatubo on ratings requires retracing steps well into the 1990s. On stride patterns, an equivalent is much easier to find. We need only cast our minds back to last year.

Pinatubo's average cadence when streaking clear in the National Stakes at the Curragh was 2.36 strides per second and his average stride length is a fairly impressive 24ft 8in.

The figures look remarkably similar to those recorded by Too Darn Hot, last year's runaway champion juvenile. In the Champagne Stakes, his last run before the Dewhurst, he galloped at 2.40 strides per second and averaged a stride length of 24ft 8in.
