The Niarchos family have sponsored the race through the Haras du Fresnay-le-Buffard since 1986 and the first of their six individual winners was the ferociously tough and classy Miesque. Trained by Francois Boutin and ridden by Freddy Head, she streaked to a
three-length success as a three-year-old and repeated the trick at four. Her daughter East Of The Moon also scored in the famous
two-tone blue silks, while son Kingmambo became a leading sire.
