The JenningsBet Northumberland Plate (3.15) is one of the great handicap prizes of high summer and, for all that it falls so close to Royal Ascot, the occasion has retained its unique appeal.
More broadly, the staying division on the Flat also has many fans precisely because the same names tend to hang around for longer.
That theme runs through this year's Plate, in which lightly raced types like Who's Glen and Pappano mix it with the likes of East India Dock, the Chester Cup winner who is rapidly becoming an established favourite even at the age of just four, and a pair who have been there and (in one case very nearly) done it in this race.
