Irish trainer with two wins and three seconds from six Carlisle runners bids to enhance his track record on Tuesday

Punting pointers from each of Tuesday's race meetings . . .

Carlisle: bumper winners to note for McConnell

John McConnell's runners should always be noted when crossing the Irish Sea given his strike-rate in Britain over the last five seasons is 21 per cent, compared to just nine per cent in Ireland.

The County Meath trainer is not a frequent visitor to Carlisle, but he has had two winners and three seconds from his six runners (33 per cent win strike-rate), and sends two in a bid to enhance that record.

Ben Harvey takes the ride on Ira Hayes in division one of the 2m4f maiden hurdle (1.03). The five-year-old was an 11-length winner of his sole point-to-point and created a fine impression when comfortably landing a Wexford bumper last month.

McConnell will also be looking to land division two (1.33) with Kevin's Pride. Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, the five-year-old was an authoritative nine-and-a-half-length winner of a Kilbeggan bumper in August and gets the services of Brian Hayes.

Fakenham: O'Sullivan bids for more British success

Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey Michael O'Sullivan has won on both of his ventures to Britain this season and looks to continue that trend on his first visit to the Norfolk venue.

O'Sullivan struck on his sole rides at Hereford and Bangor last week, both trained by Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm, and gets the leg-up on Harthope in the 2m fillies' juvenile hurdle (2.30) for George's dad Tom.

The three-year-old is out of the useful Chomba Womba, a three-time Grade 2 winner over hurdles for the same owners, and is related to several winners.

Lucy Wadham is two from three (67 per cent strike-rate) with her runners in handicap chases at Fakenham this season. She runs Samourai One in the 3m conditional jockeys' handicap chase (3.40).

Limerick: Katherine a great for Sexton

Katherine helped County Kildare trainer Adrian Sexton double his winners' tally in the last five seasons to four with back-to-back victories in September and October, and bids to continue the good work under his son Harry in the 2m mares' handicap hurdle (1.15).

The seven-year-old snapped a 17-race losing run when switching to mares' only company to score by six lengths at Kilbeggan, before going in again the following month in similar company at Fairyhouse.

She was starting to make headway when brought down on the turn when sent chasing at Clonmel last month before a confidence-boosting run in a Curragh Flat maiden in preparation for this.

Katherine has gone up 16lb for those two wins, but could have more to offer back over hurdles.

Lingfield: Moore bids to extend perfect record

Stan Moore has a great strike-rate of 36 per cent (4-11) at the Surrey venue this year, but that figure improves significantly to a perfect 100 per cent when looking at three-year-old-plus handicaps.

The Lambourn-based trainer is three from three with his runners in that race type in 2024 and looks to extend that perfect record with Saturnalia (1.10) and Raintown (1.40) in the first and second divisions of the 1m2f handicap.

Saturnalia is a new recruit with a solid record at Lingfield (form figures of 2125), but the son of Holy Roman Emperor is stepping up two furlongs in trip.

"He's a nice horse who has come to me from Richard Hughes," said Moore. "We're stepping him up in trip and it's first try over the distance. It's a bit of an unknown, but he's in good form."

Raintown has won on five of his six trips to this track and arrives off the back of a good third at Southwell this month.

Moore said: "He's in great form and seems to like Lingfield. He's won over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half. He'd probably prefer it to be a mile and a half, but I still think he'll put up a big show."

Southwell: can Tate continue fine run?

James Tate has enjoyed plenty of success at the Nottinghamshire venue this year. The Newmarket trainer has had eight winners from 23 runners for a strike-rate of 35 per cent, while a £1 stake on each of his representatives would have yielded a profit of +£23.00.

Those figures improve to 63 per cent (5-8) and +£28.00 when considering three-year-old-plus handicaps, and the trainer has two goes at trying to enhance that record.

Tate runs Stanley Spencer in the feature 6f handicap (6.00) and Frankel filly Beyond Words in division one of the mile handicap (7.30), with the latter taking a slight drop in class.

Tate said: "Beyond Words is a course-and-distance winner who is in good form. Her last race at Kempton possibly wasn't run to suit and this will suit her more."

Southwell stat: Shoemark shining

Kieran Shoemark was operating at a 33 per cent strike-rate (13-40) at Southwell this year before the action at the track on Monday, and a £1 stake on each of his mounts would have yielded a healthy level-stakes profit of +31.88. He rides Maenad (5.00), Drama (6.00), Champagne Sarah (6.30) and Between Me And U (8.00).
