Can David O'Meara land another Lily Agnes with filly taking a well-trodden path?

David O'Meara: saddles Star Of Lady M

Wednesday: 1.30 Chester
ICM Stellar Sports Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes | 5f, 2yo | ITV4/Sky

David O'Meara won this race three years ago with the filly Great Dame, and this season he saddles a remarkably similar type in the shape of the twice-raced female Star Of Lady M.

Great Dame won a novice event at Ripon before coming on to score here, and Star Of Lady M landed that very same race at the garden racecourse en route to her challenge here.

Star Of Lady M recorded a higher Racing Post Rating (84) than Great Dame (81) did when she won at Ripon, so O'Meara has a better horse running this time on paper than he did then.

The North Yorkshire trainer must be happy with the draw in stall 2. The last five winners of this race have been drawn 53431,
although Quatuor was successful from stall 8 in 2013 and Mukhmal won it from 10 a year later.

Ocean Cloud also has a best RPR of 84, and she has ticked a box that Star Of Lady M hasn't. Both of Ocean Cloud's victories have come around a bend at Kempton, while Star Of Lady M has only run on straight tracks. The unknown for Ocean Cloud is this bend is left-handed, Kempton is right.

Nobody with a runner in the race this year has a better recent record in the Lily Agnes than David Evans. The trainer has had a winner and four places from 14 runners in the last ten years and is well represented again with Dunnington Lad and Zephina, for whom William Buick is a positive booking.

Buick has had four winners, four seconds and three thirds for Evans in the last five years, but he probably didn't have the choice to ride Dunnington Lad. He is partnered by George Downing, who has ridden the colt on both his starts this spring.

Kelleway hoping Cloud has a silver lining with trainer out on Ukraine rescue mission

If karma had any say in horseraces, Ocean Cloud would be home and hosed.

The unbeaten filly is potentially having her final run for Gay Kelleway, who was speaking from Poland for meetings ahead of her latest mission to rescue horses from war-torn Ukraine on Friday.

"I'm actually doing something with my life that's really worthwhile, as opposed to being a racehorse trainer," she said. "The horrors I've seen in Ukraine are hideous – it's the animals I do it for."

While Kelleway is saving horses by the lorryload, her Lily Agnes runner is one who will be leaving the yard.

"I'm very hopeful," she said. "Chester's a lucky track for me. She's fit, she's healthy, she's taken a bit more this time and she deals well with turning tracks. She's got an okay gate draw and she's just been sold for nearly quarter of a million to race in America."

What they say

David Evans, trainer of Dunnington Lad and Zephina
Zephina's drawn well but a bit more rain would probably help as she's probably better over six furlongs. Dunnington Lad won well last time and was quick away, and if he gets out from the traps he should go well. It does help [being drawn in stalls one and three], and as long as they get out the stalls quick enough it's a big advantage, but if you miss the break you've had it. It doesn't look the best field in the world, it looks wide open. I'd say Dunnington Lad is my best chance, he's bigger and a bit quicker.

David Loughnane, trainer of Absolutelyflawless
She was impressive at Southwell given how green she was and how much she did wrong. She seems to have come on mentally for it. Chester's always a tricky place for a two-year-old and it'll be a lot busier for her than Southwell was, but she's a nice, sharp filly and I'd like to think she'll cope with the track pretty well.

Hugo Palmer, trainer of Glorious Angel
I think she's come forward from her debut but she's got a terrible draw. She's drawn even worse in the maiden on Thursday so we're going to run here.
