Irish racing's new poster boy is about to write another extraordinary chapter

Hewick is racing's ultimate anomaly. At a time when Willie Mullins is responsible for 12 ante-post favourites at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, when yearlings are being sold for astronomical amounts at Goffs and Tattersalls and when talented trainers like Robert Tyner can't even survive, the horse who cost less than an overnight stay in swanky Adare Manor is odds-on to win a quarter of a million quid in the American Grand National.
Hewick is a gift sent from the gods, wrapped up and given to Irish racing with a bow on top.
On RTE's most watched news programme on Monday evening, hundreds of thousands watched Shark Hanlon's shirt hanging out over his trousers as he spoke in Sharkenese to reporter Eamon Horan about Hewick's audacious trip to Far Hills in search of an American dream. It was beautifully authentic.
