Aidan O’Brien’s St Leger hand says as much about the strength of this division as it does Coolmore’s production line

According to the betting for this weekend’s Betfred St Leger, you don't have to be too imaginative to find the winner. Just chalk another one up to Aidan O’Brien and move on.
Recent history suggests the market has it spot on. Looking at all the Group 1s run in Britain since 2020 over a mile and a half-plus, O'Brien has won 22 out of 52 – a staggering 42 per cent.
Before we all herald O’Brien’s genius, though, another aspect of the data caught my eye, namely the desperately uncompetitive nature of the sector.
