Old Roan Chase runners and riders: Kalashnikov and Frodon set to meet at Aintree

Kalashnikov will return to the scene of his greatest triumph for his seasonal return on Sunday when he was one of six contenders declared for the Virgin Bet Monet’s Garden Old Roan Chase at Aintree.
Trained by Amy Murphy for her father Paul, Kalashnikov signed off last season with victory in the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices’ Chase over the same course and distance as this weekend’s Grade 2 handicap. Regular rider Jack Quinlan will once again be in the saddle.
The weights for the 2m4f chase are headed by Frodon, who will be giving upwards of a stone to his opponents.
Frodon kicked off a successful 2018-19 by winning last year’s Old Roan Chase and ended it with his famous success in the Ryanair Chase under Bryony Frost.
The field for Sunday’s contest is completed by Born Survivor, Forest Bihan, Bigmartre and Flying Angel after Saint Calvados, Ultragold and McGroarty and Go Long were withdrawn.
