The Queen under medical supervision at Balmoral amid doctors' concerns
The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after her doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on Thursday.
“Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” the statement said. “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have travelled to Balmoral, according to their spokesperson, as have the Queen's other children, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex and Princess Anne.
Her grandsons, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex, have also arrived at the Queen’s Scottish estate.
The Queen, 96, was pictured meeting new prime minister Liz Truss at Balmoral in Scotland on Tuesday. Truss said on Thursday the country was “deeply concerned” about the statement on the Queen’s health.
“The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime,” she said. “My thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.”
The announcement comes after the Queen pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday after doctors advised her to rest.
A longstanding and passionate supporter of racing as an owner and breeder, the Queen was last seen on a racecourse at Ascot on Champions Day last year. Improvise finished second in her colours at Epsom on Thursday.
The Derby at Epsom formed part of the official celebrations in June for her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne, although she was unable to attend the meeting. The Queen was also absent from Royal Ascot this year.
