Estrange team 'devastated' after top filly ruled out of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

The Estrange camp has been left "devastated" after their filly was ruled out of Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (3.05) following a late setback.
The David O'Meara-trained four-year-old, who is owned by Cheveley Park Stud, was among the final field declared on Thursday morning and had been drawn widest of all in stall 18. However, she subsequently scoped dirty following a routine exercise and was scratched from the Longchamp showpiece.
O'Meara said: "We're devastated. She was in great form and had worked really well at the beginning of the week. We were really looking forward to going, but she was coughing after exercise and subsequently scoped dirty, so we had no choice."
The Arc had been one of the long-term targets for Estrange since she returned this year with an impressive win in the Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes at Haydock in May. She then won the Lancashire Oaks at the same track before finishing runner-up to Minnie Hauk in the Yorkshire Oaks on her last start.
Chris Richardson, Cheveley Park's managing director, said: "It's very frustrating for everyone. David called this afternoon to say she didn't go as well this morning as she normally does and that there was a problem with the scope. She's had a bit of treatment and things are just not right with her, so she can't run.

"It's so disappointing because everyone was really looking forward to running, especially Richard Thompson, who was really keen to have a go, and things looked like they were coming right with the weather. If she's okay we can look at Ascot, but she's staying in training next year so we'll just make sure she's right before we decide anything."
Estrange's withdrawal following final declarations will result in connections having to pay a penalty of €25,000. Her absence means the Arc's final field has been trimmed to 17, with Japanese Derby hero Croix Du Nord now drawn widest of all.
Britain's team for the race has also been whittled down to just two, with the Juddmonte-owned Kalpana set to be joined in the line-up by her September Stakes conqueror Giavellotto.
Estrange is entered in the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot this month, for which she is the 5-1 second favourite.

Coral: 7-2 Minnie Hauk, 9-2 Aventure, 10 Kalpana, 11 Byzantine Dream, Croix Du Nord, Sosie, 12 Alohi Alii, 14 bar.
