'He got where he did on his own merit' - hard-working jump jockey Des Briscoe remembered after death at 83

Des Briscoe: the biggest victory of his career was on Chenonceaux in the Oteley Hurdle at Sandown
Des Briscoe, a hard-working jump jockey who rode Aurelius into second place in the Champion Hurdle, has been remembered as "the most wonderful man" after dying at the age of 83.
He was beaten four lengths by Roy Edwards on Saucy Kit that day at Cheltenham in 1967 but his mount was disqualified for causing interference to the Queen Mother’s Makaldar on the run-in.
Briscoe had gained the biggest victory of his career on Chenonceaux in the Oteley Hurdle at Sandown earlier that season.
