The 2,000 Guineas waters are muddy - but we've seen a colt who it would be dangerous to underestimate
Nick Watts assesses the weekend's big-race action and key market moves

It was supposed to be the weekend when a distinctly messy 2,000 Guineas picture received much greater clarity. Instead, we ended it with a strong 1,000 Guineas favourite and the 2,000 waters muddied even more.
At least that seems to be the view of the bookmakers in offering 12-1 about Dewhurst winner Gewan following up in the colts' Classic on the Rowley Mile in May, but I’m slightly surprised they weren’t more impressed.
There certainly didn’t appear to be any fluke about his victory, and it increasingly seems like his Champagne Stakes flop at Doncaster, which led to him being allowed to go off at 25-1 at Newmarket on Saturday, is simply an outlier. He has been faultless in three other runs this season, winning all of them with a degree of comfort, and it would be unwise to underestimate him as he looks very good to me.
