Minnie Hauk is game and likeable but cutting her for the Arc after Saturday's win is a case of getting carried away

Getting excited about horseracing is a beautiful thing and to be encouraged, but I have to raise an eyebrow at the firm who cut Minnie Hauk to 8-1 from 12s for the Arc after she won the Irish Oaks on Saturday. Most bookies still offer 12-1, some even have 14s. What did that one firm see that the rest of us missed?
Minnie Hauk broke alertly, which is always attractive, and has a lovely way of loping along in her races, but it all got a bit ponderous in the straight. She had to be driven pretty firmly to edge past Wemightakedlongway and score by a length and a quarter.
They were the only two in this Classic rated over 100. Sent off at 2-11, Minnie Hauk has probably run a bit below her Epsom form in completing her Oaks double, so there's little enough to get excited about. And yet, nothing is a shorter price for the Arc.
