Aventure new Arc joint-favourite but the better bet is surely another winner from Longchamp on Sunday

Not for the first time in my career I took a lot of stick on social media for suggesting that Kalpana was “overrated” on Thursday’s edition of the Racing Postcast but was I right? My argument that she isn’t “top, top drawer” seemed to be confirmed in the September Stakes on Saturday.
Giavellotto did well to score at Kempton and is a Group 1 winner himself, so there will be some who still bang the Arc drum for Kalpana. But that ignores the fact the 110-rated Meydaan finished only three-quarters of a length behind in third and holds down the form.
Bookmakers doubled Kalpana’s price for the Arc, so were also unimpressed, and connections have even thrown in the possibility of her being rerouted to the fillies’ race at Ascot that she won last year, rather than the Arc. That raises questions over whether she will run there at all.
