I know readers will find this hard to accept but sometimes it is not wise to believe everything you read in the papers.

The Racing Post is of course an honourable exception to this rule but the coverage in the wider world of the latest set of Gambling Commission industry statistics has often left something to be desired.

There is no disputing the latest overall figure for gross gambling yield in the British gambling industry, basically the amount lost by public, of £12.6 billion.
