A hypothetical hors d'oeuvre to start with. It is the morning of March 11, just 48 hours before the 2020 Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup. Colin Tizzard's Lostintranslation is favourite. Sizing John, the 2017 winner, has come back to his brilliant best for Jessica Harrington and is second favourite. What does Robbie Power do?
"I would absolutely love to have that decision to make next March," arrives the reply. Surely not.
"I genuinely would," he urges. "If I have to make that decision in March it means I have already won a Betfair Chase, a King George and an Irish Gold Cup. I remember everyone kept asking me who I would ride between Sizing John and Our Duke in the Gold Cup a couple of years ago. Well, Sizing John didn't even make the race that year and Our Duke was dead a few weeks after it.
