The Derby Stakes 1780-2016 (revised and updated) by Michael Church
£65 (limited edition), published by Raceform – shop1.racingpost.com

Michael Church’s books about the pedigrees of Derby and other Classic winners have themselves become classics in his own lifetime. These handsomely produced limited editions are mines of well-researched information about their subjects – and they tend to appreciate in value over the years if eBay is anything to go by.

His latest production updates and condenses previous works published in 1997 and 2006 about the Derby's history and this encyclopaedic yet concise version makes a pair with Church’s book last year about the Oaks, amazingly the first ever devoted to that even older race.
