England lost the 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup final 34-31 to New Zealand but have reset and returned to the biggest match in the game against Canada on Saturday.

The Red Roses beat France 35-17 in the last four, in what was arguably their best performance of the tournament.

However, it was overshadowed by the Canucks outclassing the Kiwis 34-19 and Kevin Rouet's side can push the tournament hosts close at Twickenham.

Canada vs England preview

England could have been arriving at Twickenham on Saturday chasing a magnificent seven. However, the problem is that although they have qualified for the last six Women's Rugby World Cup finals, they have only won one.

That was in France in 2014, when they beat Canada 21-9 and the Canucks rock up for their second shot at the showpiece aiming to crash the party at Twickenham in Saturday's World Cup final.

Kevin Rouet's side have charmed fans with their exciting play and quirky approach to specific facets of the game, with second row Sophie de Goede joining Australian great John Eales among the few locks in the history of the sport to also kick at goal.

The Canucks excelled in beating holders New Zealand 34-19 in the semi-finals and can play the underdog card, with England the 2-5 favourites for global glory, while the handicap is set around the six to seven-point mark.

Following the Lionesses' triumph at July's Women's Euros, the script was written for the Red Roses to match their success after heartbreak three years ago as they lost 34-31 to the Kiwis in Auckland.

Full-back Ellie Kildunne scored a try after just three minutes at Eden Park and has become the poster girl for the tournament.

Born and raised in Keighley, she started her union playing journey in the West Yorkshire town better known for rugby league, before heading to the renowned rugby nursery that is Hartpury College.

After a head injury in the pool stages against Australia, John Mitchell recalled the Women's World Player of the Year for the 35-17 semi-final win over France.

The 26-year-old dominated the game, scoring two tries, beating a tournament-high 13 defenders and making 228 metres in attack.

Kildunne is quickly becoming a superstar and can inspire England to victory at an expectant Twickenham.

The home crowd will be desperate for success, but both teams produced their best performances in the last four, and the occasion could result in nerves.

Canada could exploit any anxiety by controlling the ball in the early stages, before England's class shines through, resulting in a narrow success, similar to last October's 21-12 win.
