Story so far

The cream has risen to the top in the BMW Championship with four of the top six on the leaderboard going into the final round ranked in the world's top eight.

Patrick Cantlay has a one-shot lead on 12 under par but breathing down his neck are Xander Schauffele and Scott Stallings, who are both a shot behind.

Adam Scott and Scottie Scheffler sit on ten under while Collin Morikawa and Aaron Wise are a further shot back.

The better players perform here, the better their start on the handicap for next week's Tour Championship at East Lake and its $18m first prize means that motivation will not be an issue for those lining up for the final 18 holes at Wilmington Country Club.

Final-round preview

One player who will be desperate to finish this tournament strongly is Collin Morikawa as the 25-year-old topped the FedEx rankings coming into the playoffs last year before a poor performance in the final three events saw him finish in 20th place.

The opposite has been true this time around with the Californian conducting a late charge from off the pace after his fifth-placed finish last week so another strong final round would set Morikawa up nicely for East Lake.

His opponent in the 6.25pm twoball is Scottie Scheffler, who tops the rankings after the withdrawal of Will Zalatoris. At the prices, Morikawa looks too big to win the battle between the two and is the selection to continue his rise up the rankings with a bold move on Sunday.

Slightly earlier, Racing Post Sport outright selection Sungjae Im looks to have a favourite's chance in the 5.50pm twoball against Taylor Pendrith.

The 25-year-old has been a model of consistency recently, finishing runner-up at both the 3M Open and the Wyndham.

Im and Pendrith carded identical scores of four under par on Saturday but the South Korean is in with a real shot in the overall FedEx rankings, something that can't be said of his opponent, and that motivation should drive him to get the better of the Canadian.
