Celtic vs Rangers predictions

Victory in Sunday's Old Firm derby would increase Celtic's lead at the top of the William Hill Scottish Premiership to a staggering 19 points with nine games remaining – but Rangers will be desperate not to go down with a whimper at Parkhead.

Having some fans inside the stadium could galvanise the Light Blues, but more importantly the shot in the arm they will have received from reaching the Europa League quarter-finals in midweek should have given them a big lift after a difficult period.

Rangers needed a penalty shootout to progress past Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce after seeing their 3-1 first-leg lead whittled away at Ibrox on Thursday, and it was their fourth successive defeat on their own patch.

Barry Ferguson has taken over from the axed Philippe Clement and morale would have been on the floor before Sunday's derby had they thrown away such a strong position against Fenerbahce. So they will at least head across Glasgow in good spirits and hoping to repeat the 3-0 win they posted in the last Old Firm clash in January.

That victory was the undoubted highlight of a season containing few, but they still face a big task against the league leaders, whose run of nine successive home league clean sheets ended in a 5-1 rout of Aberdeen at the end of February.

The Bhoys have won the last eight meetings on their own patch and can look back on a 3-0 success in September and a shootout win in the League Cup final as they home in on another title success.

They can come out on top and it looks likely there will be goals too. The only one of the last seven meetings that did not generate at least three goals was last season's Scottish Cup final when Celtic's Adam Idah netted a last-minute winner in a 1-0 win, while Rangers have scored 13 goals in their last four away matches.
