Arsenal vs Brentford predictions

Four days on from creating one of their most memorable Emirates moments with a 3-0 drubbing of Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, Arsenal may be set for a more subdued display at home to London rivals Brentford in the Premier League.

The Gunners were simply brilliant in putting the Spanish giants to the sword on Tuesday, but manager Mikel Arteta will know that there is still work to be done before they can be dreaming of a place in a European semi-final.

Wednesday’s return trip to the Bernabeu will be at the forefront of Arsenal’s mind and, being 11 points behind leaders Liverpool with seven games to go, may lead to plenty of rotation from Arteta.

That was the case in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Everton, when Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey were all substitutes, and that should be enough cause for concern to scare off favourite backers.

Especially as Brentford will still believe that they can break into the Premier League’s top half and backing an entertaining encounter could be the approach to take.

The Bees should be much fresher and in front three Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade, who have contributed to 37 of their 51 league goals this season, they have the ammunition to hurt an Arsenal defence that remains weakened by injuries.

Brentford had won five away league games on the spin before suffering a 2-1 defeat at a fast-finishing Newcastle and a quick counter-attack could show them in a good light at the Emirates.

Thomas Frank’s side have scored in 12 of their 15 away league games this season and both teams to score and over 2.5 goals was a winning bet on their trips to Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle.

Brentford have scored on their last three league visits to Arsenal too and, with the Gunners having been breached in five of their last six home league matches, they are fancied to make their presence felt again.

While Arsenal may seem in a comfortable position ahead of another titanic tussle with Real, the firepower of the Madrid side means that the tie should not be considered over and Arteta is likely to see it that way too, making team news all-important ahead of this battle.
