The market suggests Aidan O'Brien holds the aces in the St Leger - but don't rule out this improving stayer

Aidan O’Brien is never one to shirk running his best horses against each other and he has two ready-made St Leger candidates in Scandinavia and Lambourn. Let us hope they both show up to inject some life into the final Classic of the season.
The early prices reflect the different trajectories these leading three-year-olds are on. In a normal year would expect a dual Derby winner like Lambourn to head the market for a St Leger, but he turned in a rusty performance in the Great Voltigeur last time.
Perhaps the signs of regression were there before York, given his Irish Derby victory came in more workmanlike fashion than the Epsom one. This longer trip at least looks the right move.
