Three to get excited about as Lincoln entries are revealed

The Unibet Lincoln Handicap meeting at Doncaster traditionally marks the start of the British Flat turf season, and this year takes place on March 28. A whopping 98 runners were entered for the £100,000 mile contest on Wednesday and here are three who catch the eye.

Mutamaasik

Trained by Roger Varian, this four-year-old only made his racecourse debut in June 2019 but has made an impressive start to life as a racehorse.

Mutamaasik finished second on debut at Kempton but has since won four straight contests including a 7f handicap at the St Leger meeting on his last start.

With just five races under his belt, the son of Dubawi could still be well ahead of his 100 rating and he is the early favourite to get his season off to a winning start.

Vale Of Kent

Vale Of Kent showed tremendous fighting spirit last season as a big-race handicapper and could be poised to capture more riches for Mark Johnston.

The five-year-old won the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket's July festival before finishing runner-up in Goodwood's Golden Mile at 25-1 and in the Clipper Logistics Handicap at York.

A mark of 108 could hamper his chances but he is one who always give his all and could well outrun his odds, especially if reuniting with Frankie Dettori.

Beringer

The Alan King-trained five-year-old put in a game effort to finish third in the Lincoln last year and is capable of being in the mix at the once again.

Beringer followed up that stout effort with success at the Craven meeting at Newmarket and although he did not win again last year he stayed on majestically to finish second to Lord North in the Cambridgeshire.

He was given a 7lb rise for that effort but with another winter under his belt Beringer could deliver another game effort in the Flat season curtain-raiser.
