Syndicate horse for Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle and Alan Brazil strikes in feature handicap

Former top footballers Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle and Alan Brazil hit the back of the net when San Juanito won the 1m1½f handicap.

The progressive three-year-old is trained by Simon and Ed Crisford and runs in the silks of the Newsells Park Stud syndicate headed by the trio, who were teammates at Tottenham in the 1980s.

Robert Havlin’s mount quickened up well for a length and a half success, backing up his novice victory over a furlong shorter at the track last month. He has finished out of the first three just once in six starts.

“We didn’t go crazy fractions and managed to get a nice position," Havlin told Sky Sports Racing. "He was stepping up in trip and it brought about a better performance.

“He quickened up for a lot longer and seems to be improving. He’s going to be a better horse on turf.”

The rider completed a double on the Tom Faulkner-trained Serious Look in division one of the Class 6 1m1½f handicap.

Doyle double

Hollie Doyle took her record to 2-2 for John McConnell when steering Slowdownbarney to a first success in the 1m5½f handicap. The trainer also saddled two winners at Kelso.

The win brought up a double for the rider, who struck earlier on Diligent Henry, who similarly registered a first success in the 7f handicap. The Jessica Macey-trained four-year-old returned from a break to score by a length and three-quarters.

Beach fronts up

Phoenix Beach gained a fourth course win for Scott Dixon in the 5f handicap.

The six-year-old continued his fine recent form when scoring by three-quarters of a length under apprentice Mikkel Mortensen.
