Barry McHugh was back to his best just days after his comeback from a near career-ending victory as he inspired Ey Up Its The Boss to a front-running 28-1 shock in the 1m2f handicap.

The rider had a hip operation that kept him off the track for almost two years. Yet he was successful on just his second ride at Beverley on Saturday and doubled his seasonal tally with a fine effort aboard the Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood-trained runner,

McHugh told Sky Sports Racing: "It all went to plan. We weren't drawn too well but I was committed and it was plain sailing. I know it might look like he was going flat out but he was always getting a breath. I thought I'd sit and squeeze until the two [furlong pole] and he was game."

The rider, 42, said he felt like he was 18 again after his comeback success on the Richard Fahey-trained My Harrison George.

He added: "I've made all on my two winners so that must be the way to ride. Richard has been great, I've been riding for him for the last six weeks and he's been a massive help. It's good to have old friends like Tony and Paul Midgley supporting me, too."

Smart talent

Solana Rose was introduced at 25-1 for the Albany after scorching clear in the 6f fillies' novice by seven lengths.

It was the second start for the David O'Meara-trained Mehmas filly, having finished sixth on debut in the Marygate at York.
